Current View
The European Union is commonly understood to be a financial cooperative involving countries that are located in the continent of Europe including England. The world perception is that the European Union has given itself a name corresponding with its goal, to unify Europe. The scope of the European Union is seen to cover the valuation of a common currency. The fact that the European Union has a common currency is very important as that privilege was usually only taken on by sovereign states. The fact that all European countries that have joined the European union have agreed to drop their national currency in favor of a European currency and online games, common to all countries and trading on the world markets as a European currency and not as a national currency.Unless, of course, some other world countries begin to view Europe as one nation much like the United States which is also geographically divided into states but acting as a union of states. The effect on the world of this European Union is that for now it is only a financial union, joined to promote and to protect the interests of European markets. The assumption that it could in the future acquire a bigger role is always open to speculation. What the European Union has done though is remarkable in helping to erase the ethnically centered national fevers of Europe that used to lead them into one bloody war after another. The fact that Europeans could agree on a common currency is seen as a big step in making Europe a single world force rather than a continent of many voices. And, speaking of voices, the common currency acceptance may lead the Europeans to accept a common language which would be another step in joining the separate countries of Europe into one world power with not only a common currency but a common language. That remains to be seen.
